Professional Writing Certificate
College of DuPage
The Professional Writing Certificate program trains students to communicate clearly within various industries, including business, government, nonprofit, health care, and tech. Below are some examples of the projects I completed and the skills I developed along the way.
-
Distance Education Module: ENGLI 1115-NET05 Digital Writing
The purpose of this assignment was to teach a topic of my choosing using recorded video.
I started by studying principles related to universal design. Next, I performed research on my chosen topic, Branding and Website Design.
Using Adobe Premiere Pro, I wrote, recorded, and edited a video showcasing the culmination of my research.
-
Assessing Digital Tools & Digital Writing: ENGLI 1115-NET05 Digital Writing
The goal of this assignment was to assess the affordances and limitations of digital writing based on my experience with the tools used to complete coursework. I chose to analyze social media as my digital writing form and Canva as my digital tool.
In my presentation, recorded and edited with Adobe Premiere Pro, I reflected on how the digital tools we use change the way we communicate and collaborate, concluding that they are responsible for the development of new, digital languages.
-
Editing Project: ENGLI-21105 Editing in the Professions
The Editing Project assignment provided experience making high-level editorial decisions, reinforcing how those decisions are related to rhetorical situations. As a member of a group, I helped create a style guide which was used as a reference for making edits to a fictional marketing brochure.
The finished brochure copy showcases skills related to copyediting and proofreading based on rhetorical analysis.
Writing Studies Intern
College of DuPage
This is a sampling of the content I created for College of DuPage Writing Studies' social media while serving as the program's intern. These posts were designed to bring awareness to coursework, celebrate student achievements, and attract future students to the program.
-
Writing Studies Weekly
In a segment I created called “Writing Studies Weekly,” I mused on some practical (and often fun!) means of communication. The purpose of these weekly posts was to analyze how we adapt rhetoric to create new languages.
-
Video Highlights
I edited video to share highlights from the Fall Semester 2023 Writing Professionally lecture series, featuring stories from Professional Writing Certificate alumni.
-
Graduate Profiles
I scheduled and conducted interviews with Professional Writing Certificate graduates. Using the highlights from our conversations, I created profiles of these students intended to celebrate their successes and showcase the program to potential students.
